When I was a kid there was a question that I heard a lot but
never really knew how to answer.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I was five years old the first time I was confronted with
this question. We had to draw a picture of what we wanted to be when we grew
up. At five, I didn’t even realize that I would grow up. So I had no idea what
I wanted to do. The teacher gave suggestions: construction worker, astronaut,
firefighter, etc. I picked mailman. Why? I dunno. By junior high I had a pretty
good idea what I wanted to be – a professional video game player. Deep down
I’ve always wanted to be what most boys want to be when they grow up – Batman.
What do you want to be when you grow up? Instead of considering
what you want to do, you should ask, “what kind of a person do I want to be?” Instead
of worrying about your future career think about your character.
It’s important to recognize that growing up doesn't have to
mean being boring. But it does include being responsible, being honorable, and
It is more than just older or getting bigger. There are
older and bigger people who have never truly grown up. The best kind of growing
up is becoming the person God wants you to be. This is called Spiritual Growth
